Star Network

This is a type of network arrangement whereby each computer is linked to a central server on a dedicated line. So the arrangement looks a bit like a star with one server in the centre and all the other computers surrounding it with one connection.

The advantage of a star network is that each link to the server is independent of the others so the computers do not have to share bandwidth with each other (unlike a bus arrangement).

The disadvantage is that more cabling is needed that other network arrangements. Also if the central server is broken, then the whole network is broken.
