Resolution

A television technology term.

This means how many lines,pixels or dots are present over a standard length. Length is usually inches or millimeters.

When someone describes a 'high resolution' monitor, they mean that it can display a large number if pixels per inch. For example a typical monitor has a resolution of 1280 x 1024 this means it can display 1280 pixels over the width of the display and 1024 pixels from top to bottom.

Printers are also specified in 'Dots per Inch
