MMS

A mobile telephone technology.

Short for Multimedia Messaging Service.

The standard messaging service is called SMS or Short Message Service, known to everyone as 'text messaging'. SMS allows messages of up to 160 characters to be sent.

MMS on the other hand, extends this ability to send text to also include the ability to send mulitmedia content. The content is often in the form of a photograph that you want to send to another phone.

MMS allows pictures taken by the camera in the phone to be included in a message. It can also include video and even sound files.

MMS is not like email where the file is added as an attachment, instead the entire message is combined and sent as one MMS message. The device at the other end then has to present the message in a suitable format.
