Fortran

A computer language that is especially good for programming towards serious, heavy engineering and scientific applications.

Fortran remains uniquely suited for doing what it was named for – FOrmula TRANslation.

FORTRAN has been around since the very earliest days of computers, the first version was written in 1957 at IBM but it is still very popular as it has been continuously developed to take advantage of the latest computer technology.

It has many specialist maths libraries and clever routines for handling vast data sets and advanced mathematics..

Higher level languages such as Python simply access Fortran professional code libraries without needing to affirm that the calculation code was in written in Fortran - they simply import the library and use the library functions.
