Floppy Disk

Floppy Disk This is a storage medium that can hold about 1.44Mb of data.

The floppy disk has been around since the 1980's but only recently has it been largely replaced by 'memory stick technology' which can store vastly more data (1000 times more!)

The floppy disk holds its data on a Mylar plastic sheet coated in magnetic material. The Mylar sheet is mounted inside a stiff plastic casing to protect it. The Mylar sheet is made to spin around when placed in a floppy disk drive. As it spins around, the disk drive can read and write data on to the Floppy.
