Face recognition

This is a system that is able to take in an image of a face captured from a live video feed or a still photograph and submit it to a database search in order to identify the person.

It is much used by police, passport control and the security services to help identify a person either alone or in a crowd.

The database record of a face is a series of biometric measurements. The system takes measurements such as the gap between the eyes, nose tip to eyes, mouth width, nose to mouth gap and so on. These measurements are fairly unique to a person. Although nothing like as unique as a finger print or DNA.

It is by no means foolproof, but it is a very useful tool.
