Extranet

An Extranet is a computer network that allows businesses outside the central company to access their network.

For example, the car company Ford has its own (huge) internal computer network that spans the world. However, it allows some of its main suppliers direct access to a small part of the network in order to allow them to share data with Engineers and Purchasing staff. This is an Extranet in action.
