Data Flow Diagram (DFD)

A DFD is a diagram showing how data is processed and stored as it moves through an organisation or software system.

For example you may create a data flow diagram to show what happens to a customer order form as it gets processed by various department within a company.

Another example is a DFD to show how a software application may process data.
