Command Prompt

An interface term.

If you use a command line interface, for example in Windows open Accessories->Command Prompt, you will see a black window and a line within the window something like this:

C:\>_

and the dashed line is blinking. This is the 'Command Prompt'. It shows where the text you type will appear and shows that the computer is expecting you to enter a command or 'prompt'.

In Linux, you can open a 'shell' session and once again you will see the command prompt within that window.
