CAM

Short for 'Computer Aided Manufacturing'.

This means to use a computer to program, direct, and control production equipment in order to manufacture products.

The computer controls a manufacturing machine such as a Miller or a Lathe. The control computer is loaded with the software commands to cut or shape the material loaded into the lathe or miller. The material could be a metal billet or perhaps a block of plastic.

Another name for these machines is a "Numerical Control Machine".
