Adaptor

A physical device for allowing one type of plug to work with the socket intended for a different plug.

For example there might be a VGA plug at the end of a monitor cable, but the computer may only have a DVI socket. So you would use a VGA-to-DVI adaptor that can plug into the DVI socket and accept the VGA plug.
